Hey! I’m Kate. My husband, Mike, and I comprise MKM Photography: Wedding & portrait photographers; husband & wife; all-purpose nerds; extremely enthusiastic.

Our people are tabletop gamers and Potterheads, PC builders and grammar sticklers, Trekkies and Tolkien superfans. Fair warning: I will probably cry at your wedding. Partially because I’m Just That Emotional, yes, but mostly because it’s so important to me to become invested in your love story, your lives, and your happiness that seeing the culmination of all your hard work and planning affects me just that much. And Mike? He’ll literally be laid on the ground, up a wall, or in a tree getting you That One Shot.

Simply put, we are weirdos passing as normos, and weirdos are 100% our tribe. We love all the love, joy, intimacy, carefully chosen details, colors, variety, and challenges that wedding photography presents. We are high school sweethearts who planned our own offbeat wedding back in 2010—in a public park and art gallery, with very few florals and lots of friendors, with a lot of DIY décor and a hella fun dance party—so we know how it goes! It’s essential to us to document you and your wedding as you really are, not as some glossy magazine or smarmy website (or, often, your mom) thinks you should be! Whatever excites you about your wedding—be it your venue, your décor, the fashion, or the food — is guaranteed to excite us, as well.

More than anything, though, we want to get excited about your love. We want to get to know you, and we want you to get to know us, to consider us friends. (Hint: This is one of the reasons we include engagement sessions in our packages!) We’ll meet and talk often throughout your planning process (warning: long-but-informative emails ahead!) and discuss in detail what you want out of your relationship with us as your photographers. Our primary goal is to create beautiful, authentic images that capture who you are as a couple: We’re not interested in uncomfortable poses, “perfect” backdrops, or fake smiles. We are interested in how you laugh together, the faces you make, where you love to go, what you love to do—everything that keeps you real and makes you you. Our favorite weddings bask in that realness and own it wholly, which is why our favorite weddings are usually some degree of offbeat. Our favorite couples love hard and laugh deeply, value photography and its ability to tell a story that lasts.

If all of this makes us sound like people you want around on your wedding day (and gosh, we hope it does!), get in touch to set up a consultation. We look forward to meeting you!

How I cater to Offbeat Brides

Aside from the fact that we are huge nerds and have a deep love for all the weirdness in people, we are moderately priced for our area, with one basic package that includes an engagement session and eight hours of wedding day coverage—anything else our couples want, they get to add á là carte. We also focus heavily on moments and emotions over poses and, while we have some formulae for how things usually go, we are not prescriptive and will roll with whatever flow, schedule, structure (or lack thereof!) is right for you. Have a seemingly bonkers idea for a shoot or aspect of your wedding? Ask us. I guarantee the answer will be yes. (Except for maybe swimming with sharks. And even then, Mike is probably already researching wetsuits online.)

"Kate and Michael are hands down the best. Not only are they amazing photographers, but they are genuinely incredible people…after a one-on-one consultation, [we] instantly knew they had to be our wedding photographers. They are, to put it simply, our type of people. Extremely personable, hilarious, and absolutely brilliant. … Working with them was super easy – any questions we had or miscellaneous thoughts that came up along the way, Kate was able to answer immediately. … Our wedding photos turned out amazing and are considered some of the best photos among our friends and family (humble brag)." – Ashley, 15 October 2016
