Jane Elizabeth, non-traditional wedding DJ serving greater New York City, Philadelphia and beyond

Whether your tastes are offbeat or mainstream, being a non-traditional wedding DJ simply means that I am open-minded, adaptable and provide highly personalized and responsive service.

Music is one element in a wedding that can truly be as unique as you are. I take the time to listen, ask questions and make suggestions while curating a custom-made soundtrack to one of the most important days of your life.

A little more about me:

  • DJ and independent record label owner since 2001 – first gig: the legendary CBGB
  • Well-versed in all genres and time periods of popular music – constantly learning and expanding my horizons in other areas
  • Alternative, indie, and anything outside of the mainstream is near and dear to my heart
  • Host of The Breakfast Club at Johnny Brenda’s in Philadelphia from 2010-2015
  • Host of Tainted Love 80s dance party at The Bell House in Brooklyn

Having been entirely self-employed for over 15 years, I am extremely organized, efficient and handle all of the behind-the-scenes details and booking for Stylus. Whether I’m in the office or the DJ booth, clients describe me as being “friendly,” “knowledgeable,” and “very easy to work with.” As one put it, I am also “a DJ who loves music more than DJing.”

Proud to be Best of Thumbtack 2015, an Offbeat Bride Featured Vendor and 2016 Wedding Wire Couples’ Choice Award winner.

How I cater to Offbeat Brides

Looking for vendors on Offbeat Bride does not necessarily mean that your musical tastes and wedding day vibe are offbeat. I have DJ’d plenty of weddings that seemed perfectly “normal” or traditional on the outside, for discriminating clients who knew they didn’t want the “typical cheesy wedding DJ” to come and play the “typical overplayed wedding music.”

Reasons offbeat couples choose Stylus:

  • No gimmicks. I am a reliable, professional wedding DJ who will keep everything flowing without being annoying or trying to be the center of attention. Preparing a thoughtful pool of music and adapting in the moment is what makes the party come alive.
  • You may have as much or as little input in the song pool as you like. Some clients have a long list of songs in mind already, others feel they need help or want to be more hands off and welcome my knowledge and expertise. In any case, I don’t rely on generic set lists or preconceived notions about what wedding music is “supposed” to sound like.
  • I pay close attention to your Must Plays, Do Not Plays, and openness to guest requests. No requests? No problem!
  • You’re looking for someone who really “gets” you – for example:
    • Clients with very particular or unusual musical tastes – serious music lovers, musicians, former college radio DJs, etc.
    • Extremely intelligent and detail-oriented couples – many of my clients have advanced degrees and/or intense professional careers and need vendors who can keep up with them.
    • Couples who are consciously going against the grain relative to family/guest expectations, or are making an effort to accommodate those expectations.
    • Very shy clients who are uncomfortable being in the spotlight, aren’t big dancers, etc.

Whether the musical goal of your wedding is to reflect your personalities, to please your guests, or a little of both, I put the energy and attention to detail into getting the balance right.

If these qualities resonate with you, please get in touch. We could be a perfect match!

“We have very strong opinions about music, and one of the first DJs we talked to assured us they would listen to our suggestions, but on the day of, they would play ‘whatever it took to get people dancing.’ We wanted to be able to have the music we loved on our day…when we talked to Jane, she immediately seemed to get it.” – Arielle DiGiacomo

Examples of my work

“Jane was a stellar DJ. We had a queer wedding and wanted a hip young vibe, but also lots of toasts and with traditional wedding timeline. Jane was professional fun, got our mood/helped us perform a choreographed dance, cared about little things like pronouncing our friends’ names correctly when announcing speeches, and she looked cute! Worked well with the venue, went over everything via Skype, and had a coordinated excel spreadsheet we could update with all our songs/likes/dislikes and generally helped us make an awesome wedding reception!! Thanks Jane!!” – Gretchen & Doro, Married May 2016

“We were a little nervous to use a DJ because of other experiences that people had with their wedding DJ’s (not playing the right music, way too much MC’ing, too loud, etc.), but we are both SO GLAD we picked Jane. Jane was timely, professional, polite, conscientious of our requests and requirements, and a fabulous MC. She was very organized and very easy to communicate with (always answered my e-mails in a timely manner). My husband and I are not big dancers, but both of us spent a lot of time on the dance floor. The mix of music was perfect throughout the entire night.” – Laura & Drew, Married July 2016
