Hi friends! I'm gonna cut right to the chase. I believe in imperfect wedding photography. That might seem like a weird thing to say. Perfection is great — I used to love the posing, the photos that belonged in magazines, and I could literally describe every single camera in the world to you.

Then one day I said "f*** that." I started focusing on love and honesty, embracing grit, and stopped Photoshopping out people's unique beauty. I found the beauty in connection and what I'm really passionate about — the realness, the rawness, and the fun.

As a wedding photographer, I want to tell the real stories that perfection hides.

I want you to love whoever you love and not be afraid to show it.

I want you to just be your weird selves.

I like to describe my wedding photography is one part goofy-as-hell, one part kinda epic, one part warm & intimate, and all parts 100% genuine.

I also know weddings can be (real) crazy and the planning can be even crazier. On top of being a photographer of candid/genuine love, I make a point of being super available to help my couples’ with suggestions and tips to make their celebration run smoothly.

I've been called "the chillest wedding photographer ever" before and it's all thanks to the way I plan with my couples. I have a handy-dandy pre-wedding guide to help you prepare for the most wonderful photography with the least pain so you can be stress-free to Dougie with your grandma at your reception (is this a thing people do? I'm old.)

So let's do this damn thing. Let's have fun and make the most beautiful, imperfect, honest, gritty, funny, and love-filled photos on your wedding day. I can't wait!

How I cater to Offbeat Brides

A quick story: once upon a time, someone asked me what I do with all the "outtakes" from a shoot — the photos that aren't posed.

I (literally) said, “huh? those ‘outtakes’ are my favorite photos.” I deliver those. Those "outtakes" are real moments and reflect the people in them and I put my heart and soul into capturing that. I'm not trying to make magazine-ready wedding portraits and I don't care too much for wedding blogs full of elaborate details. There’s a reason you won’t find photos of things in my wedding portfolio – I just want to tell peoples' lovely little stories.

The time the groom read his beautifully-rambling straight-out-of-an-indie-film vows off dozens of taped-together notecards and everyone cried. The time we spontaneously stopped mid-hike so the couple could embrace each other and just take in the world around them. The time the bride went from bawling to lol’ing within 2 seconds during their ceremony — these are the moments I live for.

I get the feeling a lot of Offbeat Brides & Grooms share this philosophy: more real moments and less Pinterest images. If this sounds like you, I think we'd be a perfect fit.

"Had such a great experience with Matt! He captured not just moments, but feelings too. You can just see our love in the photos! It makes me so happy to be able to look back on this time in our lives together. Absolutely love the photos & will cherish them forever!!" – Sarah
