Hagley Museum is made up of 235 acres of historic property nestled along the bank of the Brandywine. Located just 25 minutes from Philadelphia International Airport in wonderful, tax-free Delaware, Hagley is the original site of the DuPont Company black powder mills. Our rustic stone buildings, majestic trees, manicured gardens, and acres of natural and 19th century industrial beauty are a perfect backdrop for a unique wedding.

Our primary wedding venue, the Soda House, was built in 1888 to store and process sodium nitrate. Ceremonies and receptions can be held at the Soda House, or couples can spread out on to our grounds to have their ceremony in our French heirloom garden or rustic stone barn. Intimate ceremonies can also be held along the river near our newly restored 19th century water turbine. Areas for tenting are also available for those wishing to experience more of the outdoors or whose numbers exceed the Soda House’s 150 person capacity.

How I cater to Offbeat Brides

At Hagley, we host only one wedding per day, and typically only one per weekend. This gives creative couples the opportunity to set up and decorate the business day before and customize the space to their personalities or theme. It also allows Hagley’s small events staff to offer true one-on-one service to all of our wedding couples.

Weddings can also start with a literal BANG. See a demonstration of black powder including a mortar firing a cannon ball.

"I would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for venue a non traditional wedding venue where you can take amazing wedding photos." –Lauren and Adam
